Charlotte Durie (neé Batchelor) grew up in Norfolk and Suffolk before moving to London at the age of 11. At sixteen Charlotte began her life-modelling career, building up an impressive artist client roster including Franta Belsky, Sandra Fisher, Paul Harbutt, R B Kitaj, Rodrigo Moynihan and Jan Pienkowski. The dearth of decent art-school training at the time and her success in life modelling, meant that Charlotte received a unique and inspiring art training. (She continues to life model, finding the discipline complimentary to the creative process of her own work, whilst providing challenging poses to her clients.)
Charlotte first showed with the Society of Fulham Artists in 1987, sold her first painting at The Welsh Open in Aberystwyth in 1992 and in 1994 contributed and sold a painting at Christies in London. She showed with the Society of Equestrian Artists at the Mall Galleries, London in September 2004 and at the Palace House Newmarket in October 2004. In 2006 Charlotte was selected to show at the Oriel Davies Biennial (Powys) and the Dulwich Open (London). In November 2006 a large poster of her painting “Shades of Lime v.2” was displayed at Knightsbridge station, as part of ArtBelow’s exhibition in the London Underground. 2008/09 saw her work touring with the Rolling Horse Revue from Newbury to Oxford, Henley to Exeter.
Charlotte’s work can found in the following collections:
His Excellency the late Carl Schurmann, Geneva; Wheelock Whitney, Minneapolis; Lady Hopkins, London; Jan Pienkowski, London; The Dragon Hotel, Montgomery, Powys; Jenny Nimmo, Powys and other private collections around the world.
